Ligongdi, or Ligong Causeway, a 1,400-meter-long dike built along the famed Jinji Lake, got its name after the family name "Li" of its creator Li Chaoqiong, during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The Ligong Causeway business street is a modern project finished in 2006 to diversify services including catering, entertainment, sight-seeing, and a cultural fair. You may find a number of noted Chinese, Danish, Italian, German, Japanese, and Belgian restaurants, bars, museums, and art galleries such as the Yao Jianping Embroidery Art Museum, Basel Contemporary Art Museum, Cai Yundi Stone Carving Museum, Harley Motor Club, and China Ink Tattoo, scattered along the lake in the Ligong Causeway scenic area.
Suzhou is famous for its superb embroidery art, which was selected for the national intangible cultural heritage list, and Yao Jianping, who was born in the city and was a master recognized for her marvelous embroidery craftsmanship.
Ligong Causeway is one of the best destinations known for its amazing nightscape and fun facilities.
