Suzhou is widely known as a tourist city which offers quite a few genres of attractions, from cultural and historic to modern and natural. Even if you cannot experience them all at one time, we’ll try our best to help your experience the best of Suzhou in a manageable period of time.
No.1 Explore the Suzhou Classics
If you take a close look at the Suzhou Map, you’ll see that most of the World Heritage Classical Gardens are located in downtown Suzhou. Here, we strongly recommend a walking tour combining the Humble Administrator’s Garden, Suzhou Museum and the Lion Grove Garden in the afternoon before 5:30p.m. Then, take a taxi to Shiquan Street and grab a bite to eat. Walk about five minutes to the Master-of-nets Garden and enjoy the night performances there. Then at around 8 o’clock, you can head back to Shiquan Street, either for shopping or to enjoy one of the many western bars on offer.
No.2 Meet with the “Modern Suzhou”
The China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) is known as the symbol of Modern Suzhou. This is a part of Suzhou that is composed of classy shopping malls, expensive apartments, commercial buildings, luxury hotels, theme parks, theaters, exhibition centers and so on. Touring around the SIP, you may test your nerve at the Theme Park; or enjoy a boat ride on Jinji Lake; or appreciate the magnificent view of Ligongdi Dike at night…
No.3 Experience Suzhou Local Lifestyle
If you happen to finish your work in the late afternoon, you can head directly to Pingjiang Historic Block. This historic block, well preserved in its original form, is now filled with creative cafes, handicraft stores, book stores, tea houses, coffee bars, etc. Take a walk along the main street of the block, filled with the smell of the many trees and the lovely breeze, and witness local people’s lifestyle. Feel hungry? Just drop into a cafe and enjoy the view of ancient Suzhou and its delicious cuisine. After dinner and having recharged your batteries, take a taxi to Guanqian Street to hunt for the best Suzhou specialties for your friends and relatives.
No.4 A Good Choice for Business Groups
If you are in a business group of around 5-10 people, we’d strongly recommend you to explore further Suzhou and Lake Taihu. Starting from downtown Suzhou, the first stop to visit should be Mudu Ancient Town, a typical water town in Southern Yangtze River Region. Then, if time allows, take a hiking tour at the nearby Qionlong Mountain to discover the legends of Sun Tzu. For dinner, probably the most wonderful experience of the day, ride on a pleasure boat tour and you’ll witness the splendid view of Lake Taihu while eating the famous fish dishes of this region.
