Self-drive trip

To make your self-drive trip truly enjoyable and trouble free, work out a detailed plan about the driving routes, rest stops and a budget.

Before starting your self-drive trip around Suzhou, bear in mind that a thorough check of the car before hitting the road means a safe and sound journey. Remember to check your oil, water, lights, wipers, brakes, tires, horn, mirrors, and so on. Drivers license, Cash, passport, spare tire, Jack, emergency numbers camping equipment, torch, first-aid kit, compass etc. are also an important consideration.

Last but not least, keep your speed within the national or city guidelines. Be sure to lock the car doors and do not leave any important belongings inside the car when you’re leaving for a certain attraction.

Now the basics of the journey have been covered, we highly recommend a visit to the following itineraries and tourist attractions.

No.1 Lake Taihu in the West of Suzhou

Drive to the southwest of urban Suzhou and you’ll reach Lake Taihu, the third largest freshwater lake in China. This area of Suzhou is surrounded by mountains and lakes. Along the way, you will have access to West Mountain, Ancient Luxiang Village, Qionglong Mountain, etc. Don’t forget to taste the gorgeous Taihu lake food!

No.2 Water Towns in Suzhou

Suzhou is a city of water which is dotted with many exquisite water towns and historic blocks, each with its unique characteristics. You can pay a visit to Mudu in the southwest, Tongli in the south as well as Luzhi and Zhouzhuang in the east.

No.3 Changshu—Shajiabang Reed Marsh Scenic Area

Go all the way to the northern part of Suzhou and you’ll come cross the city of Changshu. There are a lot of revolutionary sites, vast wetlands, gardens and residences in Changshu. Shajiabang Reed Marsh, once a battle field of the PLA, is probably the most famous revolutionary attraction in Suzhou.
